What is working process of MES system

What is process of MES system? With continuous development of society, many enterprises now perform various operations through MES system. The MES system, regardless of functional model, information model and related technologies, covers continuous manufacturing industry and discrete manufacturing industry. This is of great importance for development of manufacturing industry. What is working process of MES system?

MES system operation process:

1. Product specification

BOM is mainly divided into two types: EBOM (design) and MBOM (manufacturing). EBOM reflects composition of a product and can be used for material requirements planning. MBOM reflects manufacturing process of products and can be used to create work plans and manage actual manufacturing operations. EBOM is derived from EBOM PDM tree, and import methods can be divided into two types: tight integration and loose integration. The former PDM connects directly to MES and uses an integration interface to import required data. It is easy to use but requires a lot of rework and two systems affect each other. If system is upgraded in future, integration may be broken.

The latter is exported from PDM to create an intermediate file and then imported into MES to create a specification tree. There is no direct data exchange between two systems, and development is relatively easy, even if system is upgraded in future while it is being imported and exported. If data format remains unchanged, it will not affect operation of system, so it is also adopted by many enterprises. In PDM, you can create a separate MBOM tree (some even have a planned BOM, a purchasing BOM, a process BOM, etc.) and use same set of drawings and process documents as EBOM, but composition of nodes is different, so uniqueness of EBOM data sources is guaranteed and MBOM.

Building an MBOM on other systems requires data synchronization and maintenance, which is time consuming and error prone. Many enterprises do not have a dedicated MBOM, but only an EBOM. In MES, a relatively simple method can be considered: according to EBOM, system automatically reads process files to create an MBOM, which can basically meet requirements of users in most cases. This is an inexpensive implementation method. When a specification is imported from PDM to MES, some node attributes (such as self-made, outsourcing, outsourcing) also need to be imported at same time.

2. Financial data

Financial data can be imported into MES to calculate production costs.

3. Process File

The system of circulation between processes in MES is automatically completed, and basis of sequence is flow of processes, which is basis of work of MES. Process-based businesses typically have relatively fixed processes and littlethe number of processes that can be created directly in MES. Discrete manufacturing plants have many processes and creation workload in system is too large and repetitive (process files already exist) that can be imported via process files.

In addition to process flow, process document should also include equipment, working hours, and other information. Equipment information can be used to specify equipment in work dispatching, and working time can be used to measure workload, and is also basis for calculating production schedules. Automatic system scheduling requires high accuracy and completeness of working time, otherwise scheduling results are not accurate. Process names in a process usually need to be standardized so that system can automatically allocate workers according to process, calculate and evaluate process performance, and define process attributes.

Incompatible process names will lead to difficulties in operation of system. If changing all process files is too much work, you can use a more convenient method: create new and old processes in system. Comparison table sequence names are automatically parsed by system.

4. Production planning and inventory data

Production plans are usually created in ERP, imported into MES for execution through integration interface, and returned to ERP when completed. If there is no ERP, production plan can also be generated directly in MES. MES can be integrated with material inventory management system. When creating a plan, it can automatically read inventory data to subtract available quantity, and at same time can manage on-site operations and batching.

5. Full list of materials

The picking of materials is a difficult moment in production management of assembly enterprises, which must be taken into account in Ministry of Emergencies. The specification is basis for packaging, it should not only reflect composition of product, but also take into account actual production process, that is, according to production process, ingredients can go into process. The specification can be automatically generated using MBOM, imported into a process file, or imported as a specification file.

6. Drawings and other technical documentation

To reduce costs and meet demand for technology and craftsmanship, many companies are looking to implement paperless manufacturing. Paper drawings, crafts and other documents are no longer used in manufacturing process. All documents in this case, file must be imported into MES.

7. DNC system data

Information such as equipment, NC programs, and DNC tasks can be imported into MES, and MES can import job order informationahh in DNC.

8. Ordering data

Order data usually comes from sales department and can be imported from a CRM system into MES or entered manually.
